August 28 6-8pm Session 2 (Basket Making)
Private Home in East Nashville
Discover the art of transforming a highly invasive tree’s bark into a beautiful, functional basket in this two-part, hands-on workshop. In Session 1, we'll learn how to identify and harvest paper mulberry bark, explore the tree's history and traditional uses, and prepare the bark for weaving. Between classes, the bark will be conditioned and readied for basket making.
In Session 2, you'll shape, weave, and finish your own rustic bark basket while learning techniques for working with this remarkably strong and flexible natural material. This workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike, offering a unique opportunity to connect with traditional crafts and leave with a one-of-a-kind handmade basket.
